Artymaze's JIT #7 Play Along

I don't normally work with cardboard, but thought I would have a go with Artymaze's JIT#7 cardboard toppers. Some of these still need work.

Coffee Dyed Papers

I finally got around to dyeing some paper with coffee. It will be part of the papers I am using for the inside pages of the journal in the previous post. The original idea of a Junk Journal was to recycle junk mail and other paper items. Artymaze's series Junk in Trunk carries on with this idea by utilizing all the bits of scraps and packaging we all accumulate in our paper crafting. I used mostly papers from where I tested my printers and some of my misprints. I also utilized my coffee grounds from this morning's batch and brewed them for the second time to make my dye. I will post more pictures of the Junk Journal shown in the previous post once it is finished.

JIT #4 Brown packaging

Utilizing brown packaging (which we all get if we buy anything online) to make a journal cover. It still needs decorating, but I will wait until I know what I am going to put in it. I am leaning more towards a nature theme. Playing along with Artymaze Junk in Truck #4.

The Reason My Etsy Store Is On Hold

I have had some inquiries about when will my Etsy store be open. I had finished two junk journals and I was working on the third one trying to build a bit of inventory before I opened the store. One night I fell trying to get out of the bathtub during a power outage. It could have been worse but I did do some damage to three sections of my spine and my pelvis. This has put everything on hold for a while until I recover.
The VA took 13 x-rays, prescribed pain meds along with muscle relaxers, and set me up for a bunch of appointments. I have some MRIs on the 31st. They say I will be in the tube for two hours (good thing I am not claustrophobic). Then I will have pain management appointments which include surgical injections and acupuncture. Once released from pain management I will have physical therapy, and then it is back to see my doctor at the VA.
As you can see it is going to take me a while to recover from this. It took me two weeks before I was finally able to lay on my back without screaming. It took me another week to be able to sit up straight. It has been 4 weeks now and I am able to do a little bit of crafting (sit for about an hour at a time) but nothing much more than that. I have to alternate between sitting for about an hour, standing and/or walking around for about another hour, and laying down for no more than 4 hours. I go through this cycle every six hours. Least to say my days and nights are flipped all around.
To top it off my bursitis has flared up in both shoulders so I can't reach any higher than my shoulders or lift anything heavier than a dinner plate. I can't say I am not bummed out about all of this, but I am bound and determined to keep going forward.
I have come from being on morphine for ten years and practically bedbound for three years due to: lupus (which we think is now in remission), Sjogren's disease (which is so bad that it mimics lupus), ankylosing spondylitis arthritis (which has fused my spine in two places),  osteoporosis of the skull and spine, and fibromyalgia (which amplifies any pain I feel from everything I have)... to being completely off the morphine. I was still on codeine 3 times a day and low amounts of muscle relaxers, but I was improving slowly. I hate having to go back on codeine 4 times a day and a higher dose of muscle relaxers, but I know I will be able to reduce these doses again in the future.
In the past, I have been told I might not ever walk again. I have been in a wheelchair from a few weeks at a time up to as long as 18 months, but today even after my fall I am still walking.
I have never been this open about everything that I have, but since I needed to explain why my store hasn't opened yet maybe it was time for me to put it all out there. I am not telling you this to cause alarm or to gain sympathy. I just want you to know that I am determined to fight my way back to where I was before all of this happened. I have beaten the odds in the past and I will do so again.

What I Have Been Doing Lately

I haven't posted much lately, but I have been busy working on some new digital collections for a few Junk Journals. I think I am going to open an Etsy store to sell my journals and supplies from since I have had so much trouble with my Facebook store. I have closed all my other stores. I will be posting a link for my new store once it is open. I have two Junk Journals made and I am working on a third one. I will post photos of the journals with links to my store once it is up and running. I will also post links to the videos showcasing the individual Junk Journals for sale.

Gratitude Junk Journal

I just started a Gratitude journal, and I hope to write something I am grateful for every night. I think it is good for your spirituality to focus on learning to be grateful for things.

The Bottom Of My Graphic 45 Red Rubber Stamps Turned White

I have been cleaning some unused stamps from graphic 45. I had never inked them and was storing them in one of Tim's zipped stamp notebooks. They had turned white on the rubber bottom part of each stamp. It happened to four different sets. One set also had two stamps that had turned black and smelled. I was able to clean them all up using a stamp cleaner/conditioner, but one of the stamps that had turned black still smells a bit even after washing it. Has anyone ever had this happen to their stamps? What can I do to keep it from happening again?

My Mother Passed Away

My mother passed away July 15th, and I really miss her. I haven't felt like doing much since then. The birthday card I was working on for her July 31st birthday is still laying there on my craft table. The saddest thing about it is that my brother and sister did not seem to even care. I will never understand it. How could anyone hurt their mother this way?

Sunday, June 7, 2015

It's been almost two years since I posted last. My health took a down swing a little. Then it got worse. I still need surgery on both my left and right wrist and elbow. I was too sick to do the left arm when it finally got scheduled. I have been improving over the last two months. I am still not up for a whole day, but I am working on it. Does laying in bed on my back while using my computer count?
I have made a few cards, and I do mean few, over these last two years but forgot to take a picture. They were mostly for my mom. She is dying of cancer of the liver and it has spread to her lungs. The doctor just put her in for hospice. All we can do is keep her comfortable. She does not recognize anyone. If we tell her who we are and then leave the room for a minute, she does not know who we are again when we come back. It is very sad because I feel she thinks she is all alone. She does take hugs though which is so different from the way she was before all of this happened. She wasn't much of a hugging person then.
It has been hard on my health. I am not suppose to get upset, worry or do anything to bring on stress. I am not sure what planet my doctor lives on, but here in the real world there is plenty of all that and more so staying cool, calm and collective is not a reality for me.
I hope no one is turned off over me being so personal, but I needed to get it off of my chest in order to come to terms with it. I plan on doing more cards and things as I feel better. I made a birthday card with my mom in mind, but I know she won't make it to her birthday in July,
I plan on making cards for fun and then I will try to sell them once I have a small collection of them. There were so many things that I had planned to do in paper crafts, that I am set with the material to do them for the next two years at the least.. I also have lots of art supplies for that long as well.

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Well, surgery was scheduled for Aug 15th, but when the time came, I was too ill to stand up to having the surgery. Back to waiting. The good news is now I can play some with Halloween items. It is time to start on your Halloween cards and other papercrafts. Let's have fun together.

Still Waiting

Would you believe it if I told you that the VA has not done my surgery yet. They told me in Dec that they would get me in asap in Jan. Now it is June. I am losing strength and the ability to even use parts of my hand. I can not believe they are so back logged. I do know that the doctor I saw in Dec is no longer working for the VA.

I am still here :)

I am still here, but waiting on surgery for my left elbow, wrist and hand. Since I am left handed it will stop me from doing any creating for a while. I will be back though. :)

It finally got warm here!

It has rained a lot this last week, but there has been no snow. I finally changed my background. I figured as long as it was snowing here that I could have a snowy background. Now if it would only stay this cool.....

Still Snowing Here

If you wonder why I still have a winter scene for my background, it is because we still keep having snow here. Just last week we had a snow storm that knocked out the power for 36+ hours. Luckily we have a wood stove and plenty a wood. Look out people, the storms are coming your way!

Mega Mini Album For Christmas

Here is what I am calling a "mega mini album". I made it with a really fun digital scrapbooking kit called “The Big Guy - Kit ” by Connie Prince. It can hold 28+ photos in the combined 4 pocket pages, 4 lift up pages, 4 drop down pages and the 5 envelope pocket tags. Now that it is after Christmas and you have all of those wonderful photos you took, it's the perfect place to scrap them. You can download it for free on Connie's blog, "Designs by Connie Prince". Just scroll to the bottom of the post the link takes you to. While there check out the rest of Connie's blog for savings and more freebies.

The fun part is that you can put it together however you like since all of the pages and embellishments work together. The sad part is that this is my last hybrid project for Connie. It has been a lot of fun, and I am going to miss it, but my health now dictates when I am able to create.
BTW I am sorry for the poor quality of the above photos, but it has rained, sleeted, hailed or snowed for over a week here in Oregon. I was forced to use artificial lighting to take my photos, and it wasn't the best.
As far as most of you in the rest of the United States.......look out, it's now coming your way! There will be more to follow as it is continuing to rain and snow here.

Halloween Project #13 - Halloween Shrine

This medium size Halloween Shrine started with an eco-shrine and copper German scrap, both from Artchix Studios. The images are cutouts from vintage Halloween postcards.

The front background paper is from Graphic 45, and the back background paper is from DCWV. Both were distressed with black soot distress ink.

Halloween Project #12 - Distressed Halloween Card

The original vintage postcard was very distressed from age, so I decided to distress the whole card. The front and back of the card has a background that was digitally distressed, and the edges were inked with black soot distress ink. I continued the look around the edges of the cut out image with a Tim Holtz paper distresser and coordinating distress ink. The small pumpkins were stickers I distressed with ink to match the large pumpkin. I finished the card with a bold orange piece of retro lace and a black epoxy "Happy Halloween" sticker.

Halloween Project #11 - Halloween Clown Card

I love making cards with images that are reproductions of vintage postcards, and Halloween is my favorite holiday to do so.

I also love stacking layers, some raised and some flush, on my cards. This one has six layers.
Halloween project #10 can be found on my other blog: The Other Side of Char-

This small Halloween Shrine was so much fun to make using my own vintage images, copper German scrap and a small eco-shrine (both from Artchix Studios)

Halloween Project #1

I always stamp extras when I use a stamp and color them later. I cut them out once they are completed, and these Halloween ones needed a safe home. I hunted around my house and found an old cigar box that needed a lot of repair. I practically rebuilt the box before covering it in Halloween themed goodness. I thought it was fitting to make this my first Halloween Project for 2011.

Travel Journal prototype

This is the prototype travel journal that I made before figuring out how to make the smaller hybrid one. I used papers from the Transatlantique Collection by Graphic 45.

It is a lot like the Christmas planner I made last year.

I am not sure who originated the design (sorry). I have seen lots of versions on the internet.
